For those of you who are following my progress on the Infinity Quilt, I’m happy to say that I have completed the cutting, all of it! for the entire quilt, and now I have turned back to the first pages of Jacqueline De Jonge’s pattern to see what’s up next.
I’m already doing this somewhat out of order, as she has us first cutting and knocking out a great and confidence-building star, and then proceeding on to all the other parts. Right in the pattern, she says, “Pin the center star on your design wall, what do you think so far?”
I don’t have a design wall. But, if I did, I would love to see the finished pieces colorfully and encouragingly hanging there. If these pieces could talk, they would whisper things like “You are are a true and talented quilter and fabric artist”, and “We are important enough to take up wall space in this apartment, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise”.
Every section I finish right now goes back into a box. Soon, instead of whispering in the dark confines, they’ll be shouting “Let us out! We know a good realtor… “
I’m jumping to the near end of the pattern first. See this spiky border? I’m not dreading it, but I do know that I have not paper-pieced in a long time, and as though these steps are possibly forgotten, I’m seeing that border as a great refresher course, as it is long, straight, and repetitive.
Yesterday I re-watched several videos on foundation paper-piecing, and I know that it will all be familiar again … Let’s see now, its Trim, Sew, Press? Fold? somewhere in there?
I know that by the 3rd or 4th spike I’ll have it all back like a pro…
Happy Quilting Everyone!
